Our Vision

Put Hope in Reach by Bringing Prayer Back

SchoolPrayer seeks to equip teachers and students with a privately supported program that restores a culture where students meet daily to pray at school. SchoolPrayer began in Lemmon in 2022 and has since expanded to Hettinger. Our goal is to reach at least 25 additional locations in the next school year.

How it began · 2022

One student’s question started a movement

After a youth group gathering, a student asked founder Scott Peterson a question he could not put down: why can’t we feel the presence of the Holy Spirit at school every day?

The answer became SchoolPrayer: a short, consistent, student-welcoming gathering before the school day, held every single school day, because life does not calendar its hardest days. Students from nearly every denomination in town show up. Denomination never comes up. The door is open to anyone.

Our mission, in the founders’ own words: “serving and glorifying our awesome God by giving students a daily place to connect with their faith inside the school day.”

Proven & portable

Two towns already start their day this way

the original

Lemmon, South Dakota

Every school morning · 7:30–7:45 AM. The original gathering, led by founder Scott Peterson: prayer requests in the prayer box, an encouraging word, and prayer together before the first bell. Ten to twenty students on a typical morning, drawn from a school of about ninety.

proof it travels

Hettinger, 25 miles away

Tuesdays & Thursdays. Led by Kyle Geaumont on its own rhythm, proof the model is portable. No rigid template is imposed on a leader; flexibility is a feature, consistency is the heart.
